Artist Statement

I have always been drawn to the therapeutic, expressive, and communicative nature of movement and how we interact with our environment.  As a movement artist and educator, I believe each unique body has a story to share and the intelligences of the human body is a powerful instrument for creating knowledge and understanding of ourselves, environment, and culture.

My creative practice explores the intersection of physical space and communal experience and often leads to discoveries of the relationships that exist between the collective and the individual.

My movement tendencies are informed by years of studying ballet, contemporary dance forms, somatic practices, social dancing, gymnastics, and acrobatics. Through these techniques and movement genres I focus on form, texture, and time as the aesthetic vehicles to negotiate the interactions of human experience in an environment. 

Community and collaboration are at the heart of my work. I view my work as a platform for elevating diverse stories and as a vehicle for community engagement, a means to shift power, to create opportunities for agency, and to foster dialogue.
